Carnival atmosphere—Food, Fun Games, Entertainment, History – The Rosenwald School was built for blacks in 1916 in the Bemis community. The facility was later gifted to West Bemis Missionary Baptist Church and was relocated in 2001. Through the work of Ms. Iday “Lucy” Smith’s vision and the help of the community it was converted into a community center and is now a 501c3 organization. The facility is believed to be the oldest extant school built with Rosenwald funds and listed in the National Register of Historic Places as part of the Bemis Historic District.
