DESCRIPTION:JACKSON\, Tenn. – \nThe Bicentennial Edition of First Friday Forum will continue downtown at First Methodist Church on Friday\, December 3. \nThe bicentennial programming and event theme for December is religion. Rev. Dr. Claude A Bass and Dr. Ray Van Neste will speak on the past\, present and future of religion in Jackson and Madison County. \nFirst Friday will be held at First Methodist Church located at 200 South Church Street in downtown Jackson on Friday\, November 5. Doors will open at 11:30 a.m.\, lunch will be served starting at 11:45 a.m.\, and programming will start at approximately 12:30 p.m. \nAs this is a catered event\, advance tickets are required for attendance. The cut-off for purchase is 6 p.m. the Tuesday prior to the event. Tickets will not be sold at the door. Tickets are $12 per person and can be purchased using a debit or credit card at fffdec2021.pushpayevents.com   \nTickets can also be purchased by cash or check at the First Methodist business office during regular business hours (8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday-Thursday or 8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Fridays). \nFirst Friday is sponsored by Union University. \n \nAbout Claude A. Bass \nRev. Dr. Claude Bass was called to preach at an early age in 1973 at Lewis Metropolitan CME Church in Los Angele\, California. \nDr. Bass completed high school at Oakland Technical High School of Oakland\, California. He attended Texas College in Tyler\, Texas then transferred to Miles College of Birmingham\, Alabama where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science. Dr. Bass received his Master of Divinity\, from the Phillips School of Theology at the Interdenominational Theological Center of Atlanta\, Georgia. He later received a Doctor of Divinity from Union Baptist Theological Seminary. \nPastor Bass has been involved in and served in many Church and Civic organizations in many capacities of Leadership. Pastor Bass has pastored churches in the state of Texas\, Alabama\, Georgia\, California\, Ohio\, and Michigan. He is presently the senior pastor of St. Paul CME Church of Jackson\, Tennessee\, Lane College Campus Church. He is also the presiding elder of the Southwest District of the East Tennessee Region. \nHe is married to Annie Clivestine Snow Bass. He has four children and three grandchildren. \nPastor Bass loves the Lord\, his family\, and the church and believes the church should follow the leadership of Jesus Christ of what he calls the Galilean Ministry of Jesus Christ: Teaching\, Preaching\, Healing\, taken from Matthew 4:23. \n \nRay Van Neste \nRay Van Neste has served at Union University since 2001\, and also served as a visiting lecturer 1997-98. He has published numerous books and scholarly essays on topics such as biblical studies\, pastoral ministry\, and church history. An ordained minister\, Ray preaches and teaches regularly in local churches and has served in pastoral or other staff roles in Baptist congregations in Tennessee\, Wisconsin\, and Scotland. \nRay serves on the editorial board of the Southeastern Theological Review and on the Board of Reference for Eagle Projects International\, a missions organization. He helped to start and currently leads the study group on the Pastoral Epistles in the Evangelical Theological Society. He manages the website\, pastoralepistles.com\, which reports on the work of this study group and other research related to the Pastoral Epistles. \nRay and his wife\, Tammie\, met while they were students at Union and married just as they finished classes. They have six children\, and the four oldest are graduates or current students at Union. While pastoring in Wisconsin\, Ray and the rest of the family got caught up in Packer-mania and have been Green Bay fans ever since. SUMMARY:Celebration of the 200th birthday of Madison County

DESCRIPTION:The 7th annual Downtown Veterans Parade will be held in downtown Jackson. The Parade Marshall will be Colonel Jim Harding. Churches throughout Jackson and West Tennessee are invited to ring their bells to acknowledge the Veterans. Anyone wishing to ride\, march\, or walk in the parade is urged to pre-register by phoning (423) 341-3330. Military veterans from World War II\, Korean War\, and Vietnam War are encouraged to participate. The Veterans Committee can arrange transportation with advance notice. There is no entry fee for the parade participants. There will also be a prize\, provided by Doubletree Hotel\, for the Best Decorated Veteran’s Vehicle. She has been an advocate for area veterans for years\, conducting pinning ceremonies for Vietnam War veterans\, and organizing donations and activities for residents of the TN State Veterans Home in Humboldt. Jackie has directed the Veterans Day “Celebrating Our Veterans” program for the past five years\, and has worked on the Veterans Day Committee for the past nine years. She received the 2021 Multiplying Good Jefferson Award for her work with veterans\, and was named the 2021 Vietnam War Commemoration Tennessee Volunteer of the Year.  \nThe West Tennessee Veterans Coalition is a 501(c)3 organization of veterans organizations\, civic and church groups\, and individuals who are united to support our veterans. Past activities include the send-off and welcome home of the TN National Guard 194th Engineer Brigade; memorial coins for the families of veterans interred in the Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery at Parkers Crossroads; annual veterans patches distributed to 5000 area veterans; and support and coordination of the annual Veterans Day program and parade. Membership is free and open to any veterans\, active duty\, or civilians.  \nGwen McCaffrey McReynolds \nGwen is the daughter of a military man. Her father\, James Robert McCaffrey\, served in the Navy during WWII and eventually made a career in the Air Force. Her grandfather\, Reuben Wilson Loggins\, Sr.\, was in World War I and was a charter member of the Mulherin Post #85 of the American Legion. As the daughter of a veteran and the wife of a career military man\, Gwen’s mother\, Bettye Loggins McCaffrey\, instilled a deep respect for veterans. One of the first poems Bettye taught Gwen was “In Flanders Field.” Her father and mother remained active in veterans’ activities until J. DESCRIPTION:To celebrate the more than 200 years of agricultural history in Jackson and Madison County\, the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture will host the Bicentennial Heritage Festival on Saturday\, October 9. The outdoor event will feature over a dozen booths showcasing blacksmithing\, beekeeping\, leatherworking\, woodturning and traditional music. There will also be presentations on Davy Crockett\, wildlife in Tennessee\, Native American farming and more. Attendees will also be given wagon tours of the facility to learn about the research that has contributed towards the agricultural success in West Tennessee. Inside the main building\, quilts will be displayed. Food will be available for purchase through local food trucks and the 4-H booth. Established in 1907\, the West Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center is the oldest AgResearch center in the University of Tennessee System. It is known for its researchers’ work in ornamentals\, turfgrass and horticultural crops. The Bicentennial Heritage Festival will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the West Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center. It is located at 605 Airways Boulevard in Jackson.
